Take Action Now

A framed picture of a Wallace Wattles quote

Right Now

“Whatever your action is to be, it is evident that you must act NOW. You cannot act in the past, and it is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that you dismiss the past from your mind. You cannot act in the future, for the future is not here yet. And you cannot tell how you will want to act in any future contingency until that contingency has arrived.”

How to take action now

It is true that a person can only act now. The past is gone and the future isn’t here yet. This explains the importance of “having it now”, which make the acquisition of your desire a reality as opposed to being a carrot on a stick. But just as important as having it now is “doing it now.”
Whenever we find ourselves always looking toward the future, it is usually because we simply do not know where to start. Here are a few tips I’ve always found effective.

How much do I need to know?

You don’t have to know anything about what you're trying to do. Start from the beginning. If this were so the first act of a surgeon would be to perform surgery and the first act of learning to drive would be entering a stock car race. Realize that no one was born with all the knowledge they have in their particular subject. Every terrible sounding note a virtuoso musician created while learning to play is considered an action. Over time, their knowledge grew and the effectiveness of their actions became more and more meaningful. Your actions will grow over time as well.

Think small

Every seemingly tiny action we perform will get us closer and closer to being able to take more important actions. Again, a musician starts out with learning single notes. Over time, proficiency is attained through those notes until they learn chords, scales, and eventually entire songs. So take heart that there is a great benefit to be had from taking small actions.

Write down your small actions

Write down your small actions. Give yourself some well deserved credit for taking those early steps. It’s easier to remain motivated when we can clearly see your progress. When looking back at your early actions, we reaffirm that we are acting upon your desires and actively seeking out those desires. Your minds on the “here and now” as opposed to always looking toward the future or dwelling on the past.

Don’t plan too far ahead

Organize your actions. Keep a schedule, but don't pile it on too thick. Doing this tends to slant your focus on tomorrow, next year, or worse yet, eventually. Everything you plan for tomorrow takes a little steam out of your thoughts and actions for today. Since we can only live right now, this is where the bulk of your energies should be focused.
